URL: http://www.marnel.net/feed/ De familie Grashoff komt oorspronkelijk uit Duitsland: uit Quedlinburg, de stad van koning Hendrik de Vogelaar, om precies te zijn. Vandaar dat schattige Duitse familiewapen (waarvan ik niet weet of wij dat legaal mogen voeren, maar ‘men zegt van wel’). Rond 1746 (oeps!) kwam Johann Joachim Siegfried Grashof, een leerlooier, naar Rotterdam. En van hem stammen de Nederlandse Grashoven af. Hij noemde zich verder Frederik en schreef zijn naam met een dubbele ‘ff’.

Hence our cute German coat of arms (which, perhaps, we may legally use in Germany, but not in Scotland, as the Lord Lyon once explained to me at an Aberdeen dinner table). Around 1746 (oops!) Johann Joachim Siegfried, a tanner, made the long journey to Rotterdam. Ever since he called himself Frederik Grashoff and all Dutch Grashoff’s are his offspring.
Social media-accounts heb ik al geruime tijd opgeheven. Behalve het plezier en gemak van de uitgebreide communicatie brengen ze ook een hoop digitale ruis en onrust binnen. Bovendien wil ik niet langer mijn privacy zomaar weggeven aan het onbegrensde winstbejag van Amerikaanse bedrijven. Nog afgezien van andere stiekem meekijkende instanties. Die redden zich toch wel.
Quite some time ago I have deleted my social media accounts. Apart from the extended fun and means of communication they do produce a lot of noise. And I prefer not to hand out all of my privacy to American for-huge-profit companies just like that. Leave aside to other peeping officials. I assume they will find their work-around if and when they deem useful.

Deze website is zelfgebouwd. WordPress installeerde ik in de cloud op mijn eigen VPS, gehost bij TransIP. De VPS draait op Ubuntu Server. Ik gebruik zoveel mogelijk open bestandsformaten: PNG voor afbeeldingen, OGG voor geluid of video, OpenDocument voor office-documenten (ODT, ODS, ODP) en uiteraard Adobe’s PDF-formaat voor documenten met een vaste opmaak. De foto in de header is genomen op de Oostpolderdijk aan de oostkant van de Eemshaven in 2021. De schapen hielden destijds een oogje op Googles immense datacentrum. Het websitethema verander ik heel soms. Sinds zomer 2021 is dat Simone van Carolina Nymark. Diverse plugins vergroten de mogelijkheden van WordPress en maken het gebruik ervan gemakkelijker. Tot slot: qua internettoegang ben ik zeer tevreden over de glasvezel via Freedom, kortgeleden uitgeroepen to beste provider van Nederland.
This website is self-built. I installed WordPress in the cloud on my own VPS, hosted by TransIP and running on Ubuntu Server. I try to use as much open standard formats as possible: PNG for images, OGG for audio or video files, OpenDocument for office documents (ODT, ODS, ODP), and of course Adobe’s indispensable PDF format for documents with a set lay-out. The header picture was taken in 2021 on the sea dyke near Google’s immense datacenter at the Eemshaven. The sheep were keeping an eye on that. I rarely change the website’s theme. Since Summer 2021 it is Simone van Carolina Nymark. Various plugins extend WordPress’s features and simplify its use.
